What is MATBUS On-Demand?

MATBUS On-Demand is a free on-demand transit service offered on and near NDSU Campus.

Using the TransLoc app, you can book a personalized ride for up to 5 people within the designated service area, with pick-up and drop-off points of your choosing. Just download the app, create an account, and book a ride.


NDSU Service Area

MATBUS On-Demand NDSU Campus service provides students with free, on-demand transportation after campus fixed routes have ended for the day. The NDSU Campus service area is shown in the map below, and also includes R.H. Barry Hall in downtown Fargo.

This service is offered during the academic year, Monday - Friday, from 6:45pm to 10:15pm. The latest scheduled pickup time is 10:10pm.

How do you plan a trip and ride MATBUS On-Demand?

To ride MATBUS On-Demand, you must download and use the FREE TransLoc app.

How to use the TransLoc app.


Step 1 - Download the app.

Download the app by searching "TransLoc" on the Google Play Store or Apple Store.

Step 2 - Share your location.

The first time you open the TransLoc app, you will be required you to share your location.

Step 3 - Select an agency.

Select "City of Fargo - MATBUS" as your transit agency by using the toggle button.

Step 4 - Verify your settings.

Navigate to settings, select the agency "City of Fargo - MATBUS", and verify that "visible" and "Receive Alerts" are both toggled on.

Selecting "Visible" will allow you to see the available services in the OnDemand Tab.

Selecting "Receive Alerts" will allow you to receive announcements regarding holiday service suspension and service cancellations due to weather.


Step 5 - Select your service area.

Select the NDSU service area, then select "Booking Available."

Step 6 - Enter and confirm your trip details.

Select your pick-up point, drop-off point, number of riders, and whether or not you need wheelchair accommodation. Once your details are entered, click the confirm button at the bottom of the screen.

On the next screen, review your ride details and select the "Confirm Details and Request Ride" button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 7 - Create an account and verify your email.

If it is your first time using the TransLoc app to book a ride, you will be required to create an account. Enter a valid email address, then click next. On the following screen select "Create an account." On the next screen, fill out all the required fields then select the "Register" button.

A verification email will be sent to the address with which you have registered. Once you receive the email from TransLoc, click the "Verify email" button.

Step 8 - Get ready to ride!

After you have confirmed the details, your ride has been booked.

You will receive in-app messages notifying you of the vehicle's estimated time of arrival and when the vehicle is about 1 minute away from the pick-up point. Drivers will wait for 3 minutes once they have arrived at the pick-up point.

To cancel your ride, book a return ride, or rebook your ride, select the menu at the top right of the screen.


Riders without a smartphone

Riders who cannot access the app with a smartphone may call the Ground Transportation Center (GTC) at 701.232.7500 to request a ride via telephone.
