Fares & Passes

Paying Your Fare

Passes and tickets are sold at the GTC. Passes may be purchased from 6:15 a.m. through 11:00 p.m. Please have your cash, pass, or ticket ready before you board. Foreign currency is not accepted.

Drivers do not carry change; however, they will issue a change card. This change card can only be used on MATBUS fareboxes for future rides, and the card will expire one year from the date it was issued. MATBUS is not able to refund the balance of any change card. Any fare pass, ticket, or change card that is lost, damaged, or stolen cannot be replaced by MATBUS.

Fare & Pass Prices

All fares are subject to change.

The MATPASS is the only pass needed to ride on MATBUS. This pass is available as a reloadable smartcard or a one-use ticket. Smartcards have a $5.00 replacement fee.

Rider ID

You may register your MATPASS smartcard through our Rider ID program. Once your card is registered in the system, your name and photo will be printed on the back of the MATPASS. This will make it easier to identify your card. If your card is lost, dispatchers can replace the remaining time from a 30-Day or 14-Day Pass (based on the purchase date), and transfer the time to your new MATPASS for a $5.00 fee.

Discount Fare

A discount fare is available to: Elderly (age 60 and older), Persons with Disabilities, Medicare Card Holders and Youth (K-12th grade). People who are elderly or disabled must show a MATBUS Rider ID Card or Medicare Card to receive the discounted fare. The Rider ID Card is available at no charge from MATBUS after an application process is completed for eligibility 701.232.7500.
