Snow Detour Routes
During extreme weather events, MATBUS may elect to detour around portions of each route that may become unsafe for travel or filled with snow drifts. Please review all detours below for routes which may be affected during the winter months.
Route 3 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, to avoid heavy snowfall and drifting along 34th St S, Route 3 may detour off 12th Ave and 4th Ave between 20th St and 34th St including 34th St S.
Transfers
Route 3 riders can transfer to Route 4, Route 6 and Route 9 near the Moorhead Target. Route 3 will stop on the Hwy 10 Frontage Road at 32nd St near McDonald's. Route 4 will also pick up and drop off at this bus stop while on snow detour. To transfer to Route 9, riders can walk east to the Target shelter. After completing one trip of Route 9, the bus will travel on Route 6, then return to the Target shelter.
Route 4 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 4 may detour off streets north of 10th Ave and will not access Walmart in Dilworth. Also service to Park View Terrace will be on request only.
Transfers
Route 4 riders can transfer to Route 3, Route 6 and Route 9 near the Moorhead Target. Route 4 will stop on the Hwy 10 Frontage Road at 32nd St near McDonald's. Route 3 will also pick up and drop off at this bus stop while on snow detour. To transfer to Route 9, riders can walk east to the Target shelter. After completing one trip of Route 9, the bus will travel on Route 6, then return to the Target shelter.
Route 5 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 5 may detour off 37th Avenue and Rivershore Drive West of 8th Street. Also Route 5 will not go into M|States parking lot.
Route 6 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 6 may detour off the frontage road between 34th St in Moorhead to 4th St SW in Dilworth.The route will take Hwy 10 instead. Also, Route 6 may detour off all roads north of Hwy 10 but will still service Houge Estates.
Route 9 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 9 may detour off roads East and West of 34th Street and not service Sanford or the Vista Center.
Route 13 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 13 may detour by continuing north on 10th St. N and not servicing 12th Ave N, Albrecht Blvd., 17th Ave N, or University Dr. N. Route 13 will not service U32 apartments and instead turn south onto 10th St. N, turn west onto 19th Ave N, turn south onto University Dr. N and return to its regular route.
Route 14 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 14 may detour on 32nd Ave. and bypass the apartment loop to the north of Essentia Health.
Route 18 Snow Detour Route - Phase 1
In the event of a severe storm, Route 18 may detour one of two ways depending on the storm’s severity.
Phase 1 – Southbound: route 18 may detour south onto 45th St. S to 44th Ave. S, where it will return to its regular route. Northbound: route 18 may detour north onto 45th St. S, then turn east onto 40th Ave S, where it will return to its regular route.
Route 18 Snow Detour Route - Phase 2
In the event of a severe storm, Route 18 may detour one of two ways depending on the storm’s severity.
Phase 2 – Route 18 may detour south on 45th St. S, turn east onto 44th Ave. S, then turn north onto 42nd St. S. From there it will travel north and be inbound to the GTC. This phase will not provide service to the Microsoft campus or the 55th Ave Walmart.
Route 20 Snow Detour Route - Cass County Jail
In the event of a severe storm, Route 20 may detour one, two, or both ways depending on the storm’s severity.
In the event of a severe storm, Route 20 may detour by continuing east on Westrac Dr., turn NE onto Fiechtner Dr., retuning to its regular route. This detour will bypass the Cass County Jail.
Route 20 Snow Detour Route - West End
In the event of a severe storm, Route 20 may detour one, two, or both ways depending on the storm’s severity.
In the event of a severe storm, Route 20 may detour onto Sheyenne St. and bypass the westernmost portion of the route.
Route 24 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 24 may detour by turning north from 32nd Ave. E onto 4th St. E and bypass the westernmost portion of the route.
Route 31 Snow Detour Route
In the event of a severe storm, Route 31 may detour by not providing service north of 17th Ave. N (omitting the Research Park and Candlewood Suites loops). From 18th St. N, the bus will take 17th Ave. N and continue eastbound until it returns to its regular route.
