What is MATBUS On-Demand?

Launching Monday, March 6, 2023

MATBUS On-Demand is a free on-demand transit service offered in the Fargo Industrial Park and on NDSU Campus and its surrounding area.

Using the TransLoc app, you can book a personalized ride for up to 5 people within the designated service area, with pick-up and drop-off points of your choosing. Just download the app, book a ride, and create an account.


MATBUS On-Demand Service Areas

MATBUS On-Demand - Fargo Industrial Park

MATBUS On-Demand Industrial Park service is meant to connect MATBUS fixed route riders to Fargo Industrial Park businesses.

MATBUS On-Demand service is connected to fixed route service at two specific locations.

Connect to Route 17 at: Whale of a Wash bus shelter, located on 12th Ave N and 32nd St. N in Fargo.
Connect to Routes 14, 15, 16, 20, & 24 at: the West Acres MATBUS hub, located next to the Roger Maris Entrance.

Industrial Park service is offered year round, Monday - Friday, from 6:15am - 10:15pm.

MATBUS On-Demand - NDSU Campus

MATBUS On-Demand NDSU Campus service is meant to provide students with free, on-demand ride service after campus fixed routes have ended for the day. The NDSU Campus service area includes R.H. Barry hall in downtown Fargo.

This service is offered during the academic year, Monday - Friday, from 6:45pm to 10:15pm.

How do you plan a trip and ride MATBUS On-Demand?

To ride MATBUS On-Demand, you must download and use the FREE TransLoc app.

How to use the TransLoc app.


Step 1 - Download the app.

Download the app by searching "TransLoc" on the Google Play Store or Apple Store.


Location Permission

Step 2 - Share your location.

The first time you open the TransLoc app, you will be required you to share your location.


Agency Selection

Step 3 - Select an agency.

Select "City of Fargo - MATBUS" as your transit agency by using the toggle button.


Settings Verification

Step 4 - Verify your settings.

Navigate to settings, select the agency "City of Fargo - MATBUS", and verify that "visible" and "Receive Alerts" are both toggled on.

Selecting "Visible" will allow you to see the available services in the OnDemand Tab.

Selecting "Receive Alerts" will allow you to receive announcements regarding holiday service suspension and service cancellations due to weather.


Service Area Options

Step 5 - Select your service area.

Select the service area in which you want to book a ride. You can switch between service areas using the arrows at the bottom of the screen. Once you know which service you would like to use, select "Booking Available."


Entering a Trip

Step 6 - Enter and confirm your trip details.

Select your pick-up point, drop-off point, number of riders, and whether or not you need wheelchair accommodation. Once your details are entered, click the confirm button at the bottom of the screen.

On the next screen, review your ride details and select the "Confirm Details and Request Ride" button at the bottom of the screen.


Creating an Account

Step 7 - Create an account and verify your email.

If it is your first time using the TransLoc app to book a ride, you will be required to create an account. Enter a valid email address, then click next. On the following screen select "Create an account." On the next screen, fill out all the required fields then select the "Register" button.

A verification email will be sent to the address with which you have registered. Once you receive the email from TransLoc, click the "Verify email" button.


Ride in Progress

Step 8 - Get ready to ride!

After you have confirmed the details, your ride has been booked.

You will receive in-app messages notifying you of the vehicle's estimated time of arrival and when the vehicle is about 1 minute away from the pick-up point. Drivers will wait for 3 minutes once they have arrived at the pick-up point.

To cancel your ride, book a return ride, or rebook your ride, select the menu at the top right of the screen.


Riders without a smartphone

Transferring onto the service at Whale-of-a-Wash on 12th Ave N, in Fargo, let your Route 17 driver know to radio the TransLoc service.

Transferring onto the service at West Acres let your Route 14, 15, 16, 20, or 24 driver know to radio the TransLoc service.
